bottlebrush

Alongside my illustration and design work, teaching comprises a vital part of my art practice. I began teaching art in 2012. Since then, I have taught to a wide array of ages and in a number of mediums. I am state-certified in Art Education K-12 through the graduate teaching program at University of Missouri - Saint Louis. This certification compliments my undergraduate degree from Saint Louis University, where I pursued a double major in Studio Art and Art History.

My interest in pursuing and elevating visual arts education lead to the creation of Bottlebrush. Bottlebrush is an arts education space where students can gain new artistic experiences and explore their creativity - whether that means honing existing skillsets or broadly experimenting with different mediums. Through Bottlebrush, I offer a variety of year-round lessons, classes, and workshops. During the summer months, a full-day, arts-focused summer camp joins the roster. If you are interested in learning more about or signing up for one of Bottlebrush’s offerings, please continue reading below.

one-on-one art lessons

As a teacher, I value each student’s personal interests and creative process. In turn, my lessons are highly adaptive and individualized to meet the needs of every student - whether broadly exploring their creativity or honing a specific artistic skill. For school-age students, lessons are an ideal platform to expand upon classroom learning and dive deeper into their artistic experience.

My teaching specialties include:

  • drawing (graphite, ink, color pencil, and various other media)

  • painting (gouache, watercolor, and acrylic)

  • illustration

  • mixed media

  • sketchbook development

  • portfolio development

While specializing in the above areas, I am experienced with teaching a range of artistic media, both two-dimensional and three-dimensional. If you are interested in exploring another media or process, I am always open to discussing possibilities.

group art classes

In addition to one-on-one lessons, I also offer age-based group art classes on weekday afternoons for kids, with preschool, elementary school, and middle school level classes. Classes are designed to provide a welcoming space for kids to be creative and have fun during after-school hours. During classes, we may cover a variety of art projects in a wide array of mediums - both two-dimensional and three-dimensional. The student-teacher ratio for classes is kept low to ensure that all children receive the best possible instruction and attention.

workshop days

Workshop days are offered throughout the spring, fall, and winter months on select school holidays. Similar to group art classes, workshops are open to multiple students and focus on creating a fun, immersive experience while drawing from a range of artistic media. Upcoming workshop dates are announced at the start of every school semester. To receive workshop announcements, please email me at the address listed below or complete the contact form.

summer art camp

During the summer months, I run an art camp on weekdays throughout June, July, and August. One-week-long camp sessions combining art projects & activities with the usual summer camp fun. Each week, campers explore a variety of 2-D and 3-D art media (drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, fiber arts, etc.). Projects change every week, so campers who enroll for multiple weeks always have new and different ways to engage their creativity. In addition to art-making, campers' experience is bolstered by group games, water play, nature exploration, and other activities. Camp groups are open to campers entering 1st through entering 8th grades.

Enrollment for summer 2023 is open! To learn more or sign up, email me at the address listed below or complete the contact form. Due to the small weekly group size, spaces fill up quickly and are first-come-first-served.
